“My training in Massage therapy begin in 2003. What was supposed to be a qualification that would allow me to work in spas around the world, instead turned my world upside down”!
-
During my massage training I fell in love with Anatomy & Physiology, and having never been studious, this was quite a shock! After working in spas in Scotland and New Zealand, I returned to England (and met my future husband on the flight home!!) to study for a degree in Physiological Science.
After graduating, I combined my academic knowledge and massage experience, to help shape the future of trainees, by becoming a lecturer on the massage course where it had all began, in 2003.
Fast forward, and following the birth of my two daughters, which included a plethora of pregnancy and postnatal complications, my focus shifted towards women's health.
I established a specialist pregnancy and postnatal practice in rural Somerset, combining massage therapy, exercise and education. I wanted to support every women that came to my studio and would often refer clients to pelvic health physiotherapy as, at the time, this was beyond my scope of practice.
Another spark was lit! I closed my business, worked as a physiotherapy assistant at Addenbrookes Hospital, in Cambridge, during the COVID-19 pandemic, returned to university for the 3rd time, gained an MSc in Physiotherapy and completed further post-graduate training in pelvic health.
In 2024, my family and I fulfilled a long-held dream of returning to New Zealand and have now settled on the outskirts of Palmerston North.
In addition to my role as an MSK & Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, I am excited to be launching Maternity Massage Manawatū.
